PLAQUE TWO-THE BINLEY OAK 27TH FEB 09

Pauline Black, Neol Davies and Deputy Lord Mayor Jack Harrison, did the honors at the historic Binley Oak public house in Coventry. The Binley Oak was the place where Pauline Black first became a member of the Selecter. Most memories in those late 70's days refer to how cold the venue was a curious mixture of playing sunny Jamaican ska in fingerless mittens.

It was also here that the Specials first perfected their sound that eventually would become second generation ska music. This ska off-shoot would eventually become 2-Tone music.

In the evening the venue played host to the Allskas, who played a blinding 2-Tone set that included a recording of the song, “In Our Coventry home”, with lyrics revamped by 2-Tone@30 organizer Pete Chambers. The plaque was sponsored by The Binley Oak, and the concert by our friends at Coventry market.

IN OUR COVENTRY HOME - LYRICS

In our Coventry home

In our Coventry home

We speak with an accent

exceedingly rare

If you want a cathedral

We’ve got one to spare

In our Coventry home

In our Coventry home

In our Coventry home

We shop in a market

That’s round and not square

We're suited and booted

We buy it all there

In our Coventry home

In our Coventry home

In our Coventry home

We listen to two tone

Specials  and ska

We’ve got Lady Godiva

And Jaguar cars

In our Coventry home

In our Coventry home

In our Coventry home

We go to the Ricoh

To watch the Sky Blues

We all sing together

And we never loose

In our Coventry Home

In our Coventry home

In our Coventry home

We go to the Ricoh

To watch the Sky Blues

We all sing together

And we never loose

In our Coventry home.

In our Coventry home

In our Coventry home

We speak with an accent

exceedingly rare

If you want a cathedral

We’ve got one to spare

In our Coventry home
